Classroom Job Helpers Wanted!

Wanted:  Classroom Jobs!

I have always just had a Leader, Caboose, and Door Holder job in my classroom. This year, my class has been ASKING for a daily job. HELP!  I have been trying to research, but am not quite finding what I am looking for in regards to classroom helpers.  I need something easy to change, but fun for the kids.  I think I could change out the jobs once a week (every Monday morning).  My kids love the daily Line Leader, Caboose and Door Holder, but then how to I change these out daily and make all the jobs weekly? And what if a Line Leader and another job overlap, do they do both? I think there was a linky party this summer about this. Does anyone have any help/advice they can offer?  I love the idea, but just not sure how to implement it! I know it would help build community in my classroom and help me in the long run!  Thanks! Looking forward to any and all ideas!

We have 18 jobs in our pre-k class and 22 students. We are required by the state to have a job for every student every day. For a few jobs we double up...

1. Line Leader

2. Door Holder

3. Energy Bug - turns lights on and off

4. Office Runner (x2) - goes with my para to run morning errands

5. Weather Person - goes to the window to check the weather for our calendar

6. Song Selector (x2) - chooses one of the songs for our Music/Movement time

7. Center Checker (x2) - goes behind everyone after cleanup to make sure everything is where it should be

8. Basket Holder - carries our lunchroom basket with everyone's lunch number clip

9. Lunch Buddy - helps pass out napkins and spoons - we eat in the classroom!

10. Table Wiper (x2) - help my para wipe down all three of our classroom tables after lunch and snack

11. Trash Collector - picks up any trash on the floor after lunch/snack and collects trash cans for custodian

12. Cubbie Checker - makes sure that all of the cubbies are straightened up and put away in the right places

13. Book Selector - picks one book from the classroom library for me to read before nap

14. Mat Tender - passes out mats at nap time

15. Towel Checker - passes out towels/blankets for nap and makes sure they get back in the right place

16. Rise and Shine - goes around and gently helps wake students up from nap

17. Snack Passer - helps para pass out juice cartons and snacks

18. Caboose

Hope this helps! Check out my blog... I'm new to all of this and trying to get it started!

For me, the first few years I had daily jobs. Kids LOVE it! But, it is a little bit of a headache. Some kids get a little disappointed when they are a job and we ended up missing it or not needing it. So I have just one job. I call it the Busy Bee (because we are the bees) They do it ALL. Well, they have a helper, just in case they are absent or they need help. I change it everyday so everyone gets a turn then I start back over. It works for me! Good luck!

I do weekly jobs- It saves me the hassel of planning it daily. I use the simple ones: each color table helper, caboose, line leader/star student, snack monster, and clean-up helper. The table helpers rotate in the same manner each week, and with the other helpers- I make a list to make sure each child has a turn each week. Weekly is less confusing for me and the kids. And if it happens that someone has 2 jobs, then I let it overlap. I want the children to really understand the "job" and not just something daily. And this is at the K level.
